The MarTech Summit Hong Kong returned on 9 July 2024 at Kowloon Shangri-La. With over 250 senior-level marketers, more than 30 speakers, and 14 MarTech exhibitors, this year’s summit was a great success, featuring engaging discussions and insightful sessions.
We were pleased to host marketing leaders from notable organisations such as Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Jockey Club, IKEA, Manulife, Shell, FedEx Express, South China Morning Post, HKT, Chanel, Greenpeace, Grand Hyatt, Pirata Group, DFI Retail Group, Rosewood Hotel Group, DFS, Dyson, Klook, HSBC, P&G, and many others. The summit brought together MarTech professionals from leading brands and organisations to foster connections and exchange innovative ideas.
We are proud to report that more than 80% of our attendees were in senior leadership positions. Additionally, over 60% of them came from organisations with more than 1001 employees.
This year’s agenda featured an exciting lineup of cutting-edge topics such as AI-Powered Customer Experience, Data Insights and ROI, Digital Commerce, Data Privacy, and Omnichannel Engagement, among others. These subjects were covered through a mix of panels, fireside chats, keynote presentations, and roundtable discussions. We were particularly delighted by the active participation of our attendees, who posed over 100 insightful questions, enriching the event with their curiosity and engagement.
Additionally, we facilitated 52 pre-arranged 1-2-1 meetings on-site for our event partners.
Summit highlights
The summit covered several hot topics, with Digital Transformation and AI being prominent among them.
During the panel on this topic, a poll was conducted asking, “What stage is the AI development in your organisation?” The results showed that more than half of the audience members indicated they are in the early adoption stage. This suggests that AI is set to become increasingly significant for marketers in the near future.
Of course, we discussed MarTech Adoption and Implementation through a panel session and in-summit roundtable discussion.
The panel conducted a word cloud exercise with the question, “What will MarTech improve in your organisation?” This aimed to understand the audience’s purpose for adopting MarTech. The results highlighted that driving ROI, enhancing efficiency, and ultimately growing revenue are key objectives.
Here are the takeaways from the in-summit roundtable discussion, where we explored the challenges, pain points, and solutions for adopting a new MarTech stack in your organisation, whether through new purchases or building from scratch.
- Take it slow (but not too slow!) Be aware of what your end goals are and not get drawn into the fancy new tech.
- Have regular checkpoints and catch-ups to make sure progress is where it should be. If things don’t work out in the end, move on quickly and try again.
- The most important aspect is getting the people in the organisation to accept change and adopt new tech.
We also delved into areas beyond mainstream MarTech topics, such as Digital Commerce, through a fireside chat.
Below is a word cloud generated from a question asked by the speakers to the audience members about which e-commerce sites they have made a purchase on in the past six months. These interesting results offer relevant insights for marketers looking to understand the digital commerce landscape in Hong Kong.
We also had a special fireside chat session featuring three legal experts who discussed Data Privacy. Our speakers addressed the challenges of transitioning to a cookie-less phase, current gaps in the adoption of third-party cookies, and the anticipated problems with cookie-less solutions, including reduced transparency and control for users. Additionally, common misconceptions about anonymised data were also discussed.
Last but not least, there was a breakout session hosted by Similarweb, focusing on market analysis and digital strategy in 2024. The moderator and participants shared their insights on harnessing in-depth analytics and numerous user engagement metrics to reach new audiences and achieve smart market expansion.
They also discussed gaining a comprehensive view of websites, apps, and market trends, and finding new opportunities for digital growth.
