Quick Q&A with Jennifer Wood
Could you please give us a quick introduction of yourself?
I’m Global Head of Marketing for Salt, a global talent and recruitment firm specialising in digital. We work with clients across marketing, sales, tech and creative. Before this, I worked in Tech branding and communications for a large ICT brand within ICT that delivered digital transformation services and solutions. Over 15+years, my background has spanned content, brand and organic growth across B2B and B2C.
Why did you choose to participate in The MarTech Summit London?
It’s a great chance to connect with peers and push boundaries in MarTech. We should always be learning, gathering, and sharing ideas and learn. I’ve always had a connective tissue between marketing and technology, working in tech showed me the evolutionary scale and how it impacts how we communicate, deliver and nurture business. Marketing evolves as tech evolves.
You have experience across both B2B and B2C marketing. What are some unique qualities that B2B partnerships require, which are often misunderstood or overlooked?
The partnerships that work best are proactive, not reactive, always starting with alignment and shared vision (then on transaction). Partnerships can help scale, elevate diversity of voice and open new markets, but the foundation needs to be a passion and willingness to collaborate on shared goals. Too often, B2B is seen as ‘different’ from B2C. But when it comes to it, a people-to-people mindset can unlock more creative conversations and outcomes. One other thing that can be overlooked is internal partnerships. Working across departments on shared goals can deliver as much value as external partnerships.
What’s a common mistake marketers make when forming partnerships, and what’s your top tip for avoiding it?
It might not be common, but a mistake would be to treat partnerships like short-term campaigns. My top tip would be to establish governance early, with clear ownership at all levels, including board stakeholders and delivery teams. When everyone knows who is responsible and is aligned on the vision, you avoid wasted effort to keep momentum. Partnerships fail when they stall, so keep them serviced.
You describe yourself as a digital champion with a passion for creativity. What digital formats or trends are you most excited to explore in B2B partnerships going into 2025?
I feel this question gets harder every year! I’m a storyteller at heart, so I am drawn to formats that deliver content in interesting or digestible ways. AI is in the room, of course; I’d like to see more scale on automation and personalised, but simplified – how will AI and ML evolve to deliver better relevance to audiences? Also, with more people preferring brands that align with their values (whether they are a business or a consumer), ethical Martech and sustainable-focused activity could be a real differentiator, which could also apply to partnership considerations and leaks into Brand CSR. What can our digital tools and systems do to help support or elevate the great work people are doing already? Most of the time, I find the story is there to tell, the tools and systems support marketing to let it be said better, at the right time, to the right people and in the right way.
Jennifer reminds us that marketing is, at its core, a human conversation. Whether it’s forging meaningful B2B partnerships, embracing ethical technology, or simplifying personalisation through AI, her approach centres on aligning values and vision. We look forward to welcoming her to The MarTech Summit London 2025, where her insights will help us explore how technology can elevate not just outcomes, but the stories and connections behind them.
